Individual Therapy

My psychotherapy practice in Dubai supports adults aged 18 and over with concerns ranging from the strain of everyday demands to persistent emotional difficulties and recurring relationship patterns. Therapy brings attention to what is troubling you now, alongside the experiences that may shape how you respond.

My approach

Symptoms matter, but they are one part of a wider picture. We begin with the demands you are facing, how you are coping and the resources available to you. When a response keeps recurring or feels more intense than the present situation seems to explain, we explore its history: when it developed, what it once protected you from and what happens when it is activated today. This helps us understand your experience in context, including your relationships and culture, without treating every difficulty as pathology.

Psychoeducation is central to this work. I explain the psychological concepts behind the patterns we identify and the rationale for our interventions, so you can gradually develop your own framework for understanding and responding to your experience. The aim is to strengthen your ability to help yourself with increasing confidence and independence.

What to expect in the first session

The first session is an opportunity to place your current concerns within the broader context of your life. We consider their impact, relevant personal history, existing sources of support and what has or has not helped before. From this, we begin to establish a shared understanding of the difficulty and a meaningful direction for therapy. There is also space to discuss confidentiality, ask about the proposed approach and consider whether working together feels right for you.

What we do in sessions

Sessions connect this understanding with the moments in which difficulties arise. We examine how a situation acquires meaning for you, the emotions it evokes and the responses that follow. Depending on your needs, the work may involve exploring an established belief, processing an emotional experience, developing ways to regulate distress or rehearsing a different response. Experiences between sessions become part of the work: they help us understand where a familiar pattern persists and what supports an alternative.

What you take beyond the therapy room

The aim is for the psychological understanding developed in therapy to become a resource you can draw on independently. This means being able to recognise what has been triggered, distinguish present circumstances from familiar expectations and understand the needs beneath your reaction. Alongside practical skills, you develop a way of thinking about your experience that helps you make considered choices and respond to future difficulties with greater flexibility. The reasoning behind the work becomes something you can apply for yourself.

How change develops

Change is rarely a straight line. Awareness allows you to recognise a pattern; repeated practice helps you respond differently when that pattern is activated. As this becomes part of everyday life—expressing a need, maintaining a boundary or tolerating an unfamiliar emotional response—new ways of relating to yourself and others can become more established. Returning to an old response does not erase that learning. We use these moments to understand what still needs attention, adjusting the work when needed and making room for setbacks along the way.
